Adam Lambert’s Fans Throwing Sex Toys Onstage! by Carrie Borzillo-Vrenna

“It’s going further, and somebody threw onstage a red-leather tasseled whip,” he tells us. “Yeah, and then the next night, I got one that was made out of, like, purple fur. It’s getting really S&M.” “It interesting,” he says. “I got some glow-in-the-dark handcuffs. It’s really getting creative. It’s exciting. I think they really want me to play with these toys during the number.” So does he? “I always try to because I enjoy that,” he says. “But then somebody threw a bra on during ‘Starlight,’ and, literally, it missed my face by three inches. Yeah, I am going to be a little bit more passive-aggressive, so I decided not to even acknowledge the bra that got thrown on stage, because I didn’t want to condone the behavior.”
The upside to the new X-rated projectiles? “I’m glad it was a soft material and wasn’t anything hard. I’m not really into S&M, but it’s definitely tempting.”

Lambert, Allen, Cook ready for GMA by Bill Pinella

“They will each sing one song apiece,” ABC-TV spokesperson Bridgette Maney said. “And I don’t know what order they will go in. I don’t know if that has even been determined yet.”
One good thing is that they will be doing more than one song although you won’t see it on the telecast. For that “extra” song from each you’ll have to go to the ABC website and we’ll provide you a direct link to that later today.
“Every year we try to get the American Idol winnner on one of the Summer Concert Series shows,” Maney said, “and this one just happened to work out where we could get all three of these guys on the show as one time.”

An Idol Tracker’s journey ends by Richard Rushfield

So many memories from three years on the “Idol” beat. Come with me now on a little stroll down Memory Boulevard, as we visit an Idol Tracker’s greatest days, with a few of the pictures and videos I’ve snapped over the years. Ah, yes, I remember it well ….
– Meeting a very shy Kris Allen, an unforgettable Alexis Grace and a very magical Megan Joy at the Top 13 party, the night of their public debut.
– Watching in disbelief Adam Lambert’s “Ring of Fire,” the gutsiest Idol performance ever, and his “Mad World” and realizing we were witnessing a star being born.
– Watching the quiet but unstoppable rise of Kris Allen; no one saw him coming, but once he got there, seemed a natural champion and one of the nicest to ever grace “Idol.”
As for me, this chapter closes, but my “Idol” journey will not end. I’m moving on to a new campground, so come say hi over at gawker.com in a few weeks, and check out richardrushfield.com — soon to be blog equipped for all the latest on what I’m up to…

“Idol” wave hits Charlotte by Jen Aronoff

Kris: After arriving in Charlotte at 4 a.m. Saturday, he woke up around 10, walked around the hotel – and discovered it had a YMCA inside it… So, he worked out. After the tour ends, he says, he’s planning on going to Los Angeles to finish his album and will then set out to promote it. “I’m having the time of my life, seriously – no David Cook puns there,” he cracked. I also asked how they amuse themselves during long hours on the road. Said Kris: “We’ve never had a problem with that. Matt keeps us pretty amused all the time, and me and Anoop, we pretty much sit there laughing at everyone else. It’s pretty fun.” Oh, and they watch a lot of “Family Guy” on the bus.

Adam Lambert, ‘American Idol’ crowd pleaser, still on stage By Sam Sessa

“American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert is anything but subtle… “I remember getting into the competition and feeling like, ‘Oh, I hope I crack the top 10,’ ” he said. “I never thought I would get that far in ‘American Idol,’ considering that I’m a little bit more alternative.” “I learned a lot in theater as far as how to please a crowd and create a ‘number,’ ” Lambert said. “I tried to do that each week with ‘Idol,’ from what I was wearing to how I used the stage to lighting things and sound things I used along the way. I just wanted to create a mood and theater definitely gave me that knowledge.” “I’m surprised that people looked past a lot of the other stuff,” he said. “Maybe I suspended their disbelief and allowed them to be entertained. I think that’s what music should be.”
On the American Idols Live tour, Lambert opens his set with Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” then segues into “Starlight” by Muse and “Mad World” by Tears for Fears. Audiences can also expect “Slow Ride” by Foghat and a medley of songs by David Bowie – an artist Lambert looks up to. “Bowie’s a great example of somebody that brought out visual theatrics to help him tell his story,” he said.
When Lambert gets a day off between cities, he works on his forthcoming solo album, he said. He’s booked a couple recording sessions along the tour, which continues through mid-September. After it ends, he’s going to devote all his time to finishing the album. So far, he’s pleased with how it’s coming together. Lambert said he has even co-written some lyrics on a handful of songs.
“I’m excited that I have some creative control and input as to what is going to be in the album,” he said. “Contrary to popular belief, they do not puppet us around after ‘Idol.’ They’re giving me a lot of creative control.” As for the songs? “They’re sexy,” he said. “There’s a lot of sexy songs – songs that are fun to dance to. There’s a lot of anthems and stuff you can sing along to. It pretty much just kicks ass.”
Though it doesn’t yet have a title, the album is slated for a November release. And Lambert isn’t hiding his enthusiasm. That wouldn’t be his style. “We’re really, really, really excited.”

Allen? He’s good, but Lambert steals the show by Eddie Huffman

There was no way Kris Allen could top the glam flash and showmanship of Adam Lambert on stage at the Greensboro Coliseum on Sunday night. So Allen closed the concert with the same method he used to beat Lambert on “American Idol,” delivering a comparatively subdued yet soulful performance… There were a couple of subtle surprises, including Lambert’s brief run through “Life on Mars” in a David Bowie medley, as well as the inevitable bombastic show closer, with all 10 singers emerging at the end for Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing.”
Some singers emerged from smokescreens at the back of the stage –– most notably Lambert, strutting out to the opening riff of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” … Allen, dressed in a modest Western shirt and jeans, delivered fine if unspectacular renditions of songs he made his signatures on the TV show, including Bill Withers’ 1971 hit “Ain’t No Sunshine” and Kanye West’s “Heartless” from 2008. He went from grand piano to electric and acoustic guitar over the course of his set, closing with a crowd singalong of the Beatles’ “Hey Jude” before the rest of the singers crowded the stage for the Journey finale.
But Lambert provided the real capper to the concert. He was dressed like a cross between Mad Max and “Purple Rain”–era Prince, and applied his remarkable vocal range to a set heavy on classic rock. In addition to the Zeppelin and Bowie covers, Lambert also offered a haunting cover of “Mad World” from the “Donnie Darko” soundtrack.
Allen showed enough range and talent to illustrate how he won “American Idol,” but Sunday night’s concert positioned Lambert as the bigger potential breakout star.

Interviews with Michael Sarver, Scott MacIntyre, Kris Allen, Allison Iraheta, Anoop Desai by Rodney Ho

Allison Iraheta: Allison and I talked about her family and friends seeing her in Los Angeles. She said 80 people-plus showed up. “They used to tell me to shut the hell up when I kept singing,” she said. “Now they say, ‘Can you sing for my friend?’ ” She said she enjoys running around the stage. The only problem she’s had so far is going around one time with her laces untied. “I was scared as hell I was going to fall,” she said. She didn’t. But she also didn’t have time to actually tie them while singing. Allison said the producers wanted her to sing Pink’s “So What.” She chose the other two songs by Janis Joplin and Heart. Her new album, she knows, will be a mix of pop and rock, since she’s on Jive, but she prefers harder, edgier rock.
Kris Allen: Since I knew they had a day off, I asked whether he spent yesterday working on his new album. He said something album-related fell through so he actually had a few hours off. So his decision? Go see “The Hangover” at Phipps Plaza at 8 p.m. — by himself. Yes, the winner of “Idol” sat by himself in a dark theater alone, save for a few other souls who caught the film on a Thursday night. He said he went unrecognized as well. “No one wanted to go with me,” he said. He said he had never seen a movie by himself. “If I want to go to movies, I want to go with friends,” he said.
So far, the album is going well. At least that’s what the honchos are telling him. “I don’t know,” he said. “I’ve never done this before. I keep asking, ‘Is everything going okay?’ They say, ‘Everything is going great.’ Okay, good!” He said he was getting used to cowriting. His favorite person to co-write with? Guitarist Joe King of the Fray. “That was very very fun,” he said. “We spent two days in Virginia. I came to their show. He went to our show. ”

Rodney Ho also re-wrote his review

“American Idol” winner Kris Allen had a rare day off on the “Idols Live” tour last Thursday while in Atlanta. He decided to go to see “The Hangover” at Phipps Plaza. Unfortunately, none of the other “Idol” contestants wanted to go. So for the first time in his life, he went to see a film all by himself. What’s more, he said in an interview Friday, not a soul at Phipps recognized him. In a way, it was a nice break for the unassuming, still occasionally incognito, Allen. But on stage at the Gwinnett Arena Friday night, he was highly recognizable, singing a five-song victory lap before he embarks on his solo career as a pop-rock star. Thanks to a fine vocal range, earnest delivery and purely likable personality, Allen proved his worth, reprising two of his best performances from the season, “Heartless” and “Ain’t No Sunshine.” He had already dumped the awful coronation song “No Boundaries” earlier in the tour in favor of the Killers song “All the Things That I’ve Done,” a propulsive pop hit that had everyone singing along to the apropos lyric, “I’ve got soul but I’m not a soldier.”
Runner-up Adam Lambert is unlikely to go incognito anywhere, even in a dark movie theater. And his fans loved, loved, loved him as he barrelled through Led Zeppelin, Muse and a medley of David Bowie songs. (Bowie being his hero, of course.) The man is guaranteed a career based on stage presence alone.

This is the official press release from Fox re: Kara … that mentions Adam … why, I don’t know …

GRAMMY-NOMINATED SONGWRITER KARA DIOGUARDI TO RETURN AS JUDGE ON “AMERICAN IDOL”
“We are so happy to welcome back Kara for her second season with IDOL,” said Simon Fuller, Creator/Executive Producer, AMERICAN IDOL. “She is a breath of fresh air, and her passion for music and her understanding of talent is invaluable. This show is all about discovering new talent, and Kara’s championing of Adam Lambert is proof positive of her great instinct.”
“Kara’s spitfire personality and sharp musical sensibility infused AMERICAN IDOL with a new energy last year,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “She clearly has a keen eye for talent spotting Adam Lambert’s superstar quality early on last season and her performance on the Season Eight finale was one of the most memorable in recent IDOL history.”

Adding this to the random Adam mentions file … and what a weird quote from Simon Fuller – when did Kara champion Adam anyway?

DioGuardi inks deal with Fox to return to ‘American Idol’ By WALT BELCHER
“We are so happy to welcome back Kara for her second season with ‘Idol,'” said Simon Fuller, the show’s creator and executive producer. “She is a breath of fresh air, and her passion for music and her understanding of talent is invaluable. This show is all about discovering new talent, and Kara’s championing of Adam Lambert is proof positive of her great instinct.”

The Golden Idol: Kris Allen

EXPRESS: You’ve said before that your love of music and experience with it began at a young age. Was there ever a specific moment when you knew that music was what you wanted to do with your life? ALLEN: [When I was] around 6 or 7, I bought the “Dangerous” album by Michael Jackson on cassette and listened, danced, sang to it non-stop. The moment that I knew that music [was] what I wanted to do with my life was the summer after freshman year of college, when I wrote my first song.
EXPRESS: It was confirmed that you signed to Jive Records and that your major-label debut is scheduled for a release in the fall. Are you currently working on it, and if so, how have you found the time? What should people expect in terms of sound, style and content? » ALLEN: Yes, we expect the album out in the fall. We are currently working on it during the tour — when I have “days off” of the tour — and will hopefully wrap things up during the months following the tour. The album will probably be pop/rock, with hopefully a little bit of something that will surprise the fans — in a good way.
EXPRESS: What are your hopes for the rest of the tour, the rest of the year and your career in both the short-term and long-term future? ALLEN: Hopes for the rest of the tour: I hope that every show goes as well as it has up to this point. By the end of the tour, I would like to become a better performer. Rest of the year: I hope that my album goes well and fans are as excited about it as I am. Long-term: That I’m able to do this for as long as I want to. This is what I want to do for the rest of my life, and I am truly grateful that “American Idol” has given me this opportunity.

Anoop returns to N.C. for concert, excited about the future BY BETH VELLIQUETTE

Desai’s friend and fellow “American Idol” alum Adam Lambert said he admires Desai’s voice. “Anoop, his voice is so technically skilled,” Lambert said. “He can do very, very difficult things with his voice. His tone is beautiful.” Lambert also appreciates Desai’s intelligence and humor backstage and on the tour bus. “He’s quiet,” Lambert said. “He’s not one of the more rambunctious ones. He always makes me laugh. I’m not going to lie, some of the things he says go over people’s heads.” Lambert — who is already working on his album, which is due out in November — said he hopes Desai will have a record deal soon. “I wish him tons of luck on that,” Lambert said. “I don’t think he needs my wish of luck on that. I think that’s going to happen.”
Desai is hoping for a record deal, but can’t make any announcements yet. “It’s the same thing I say all the time,” he said. “It’s what I am working toward.” Desai is under contract now with 19 Recordings, but that contracts ends at the end of August, leaving him free to talk to any record label.

American Idols Live! Tour by Randy Shulman

Before he releases a solo debut and becomes an out-and-dramatic rock star, Adam Lambert is forced to continue singing on the “American Idols Live! Tour” with the kiddies, his nine fellow Top 10 contestants from the most recent season of Idol. These include, of course, Idol winner Kris Allen, who likely got more votes than Lambert due to latent homophobia among Idol voters, as well as Allison Iraheta, definitely our second-favorite of the bunch.
