Top Sites Tuesday Meme – Your Favorite Holiday Music!

Cool meme this Tuesday – so I’m joining! 🙂

I can’t say it’s my ‘favorite’ holiday music, but listening to the Jackson 5’s ‘Give Love on Christmas Day’ sure brings back one fond memory for me.

I was in the second grade and our new ‘progressive’ English teacher had a ‘radical’ idea for a Christmas play. Instead of doing the traditional baby Jesus in a manger story, our teacher wrote up a completely ‘modern’ treatment about class inequality (and other social issues that escape me now) that somehow by-passed the censors (i.e. the nuns – yup, I was in a Catholic girls’ school). The details are foggy to me now, but I do remember my part – I played the bad guy – a meanie of a social-worker who was going to take away the kids from their poor parents on Christmas Day. It was my first (and last) big role on stage, and my mother had dressed me in a totally inappropriate pink dress with a ruffled skirt. My mom remembers the play as ‘fantastic’, my older sister says it was a ‘hot mess’ with no one remembering all their lines. Whatever.

Anyway, the way I remember it, we were totally amazing and the audience loved us, and we ended the play with a rousing rendition of yes, the Jackson 5’s ‘Give Love on Christmas Day’ (the whole point of this post). Listening to it now brings me back to that excited little girl back in second grade.

So, how about you? What’s your favorite? Or the song that brings back memories?

P.S. The whole album ‘JACKSON 5 – CHRISTMAS COLLECTION‘ is kinda like a little treasure now. Listening to Michael singing ‘Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town’, ‘Up On The House Top’ or ‘I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus’ (seriously, as far as I’m concerned, no one else can top that) … there’s a little bit of heaven there. There’s also pain in my heart for the little boy that was. RIP Michael…

Great choice! I remember this song, I haven’t heard it in a while. I really enjoyed hearing it again. What a wonderful memory of a terrific play, I wish I had been able to see it. I am sure it was marvelous.

This Land is Your Land is also my favorite, in general case.

That’s totally cool! That must’ve been fun. I remember us doing performances like that, too, in high school (I went to a co-ed Catholic school). Those stage performances were so fun. If only we had a video recorder at the time. Anyway, I enjoyed your post! Gonna give you a click! 🙂

Yes, this was a new song to me also, and I am sure old enough to remember the Jackson Five days, but what a great story you had with the song. That was so funny. When I was in school if our teacher would have tried that they would have ran her out of town on the next Greyhound bus. Clicks to you.

Yes, the young Micheal Jackson Christmas songs were classic. No one could ever match his talent!

    Happy Tuesday!
