Top Sites Tuesday – Two Thoughts on Tuesday

January 12, 2010 Leave a comment Go to comments

Hmmm… Top Sites Tuesday got rid of the different memes each week, and instead we have this generic (if positive) meme. Gotta say that I usually have LOTS of thoughts about everything, but the well dries up pretty quickly when I’m forced to actually ‘think’ – LOL

Thought #1: So who amongst us has contributed to Avatar grossing that billion $$$ and counting? I gotta say that while the 3D effects blew my mind (in a good way), the story itself left me going – that was the best that James Cameron could do??? A story that has been told a million times before?

And I found this on Boing Boing that made me laugh my ass off… Avatar = Pocahontas in Space indeed! (Just click on the thumbnail to expand)

* And speaking of the Avatar movie script, you can actually download a FREE PDF of the original script by James Cameron (if you are so inclined) on the Fox Screenings web page *

Thought #2: People are amazingly talented. What would YOU do if you had to take time off due to an injury? Sandy Sanderson from New Zealand broke his wrist in a motorcycle accident, and spent the time in recuperation making model cars by recycling discarded aluminum cans! Artistic and Green at the same time!

Here’s a Hot Rod made from a Coke can – you can check out the other model cars on jalopnik.

I haven’t contributed to Avatar’s billions. I still am very sceptical about it…it doesn’t seem to have a storyline and I thought the whole 3D thing was just a hype to make more money. I refuse to watch it! 😛 And re your second thought…that’s amazing! Wish I could be so talented…

Yeah, those model cars were amazing, weren’t they?

  2. January 12, 2010 at 5:59 pm

Ah well, I have contributed to Avatar’s millions. I saw it on IMAX and the 3D made me feel motion sickness after a while. The story IS old, but I did enjoy it. One of the radio reviewers over here in the UK called it “Smurfahontas” which I thought very apt!
Those cars are great…I wish I was as talented!

ha ha – I do like “Smurfahontas” ! I’ve been calling it ‘Pocahontar’…

I do want to see that movie in 3D just for the experience. I have seen 3D movies before and it is pretty cool. Those cars are really cool.

    Here’s your click ………

    Love and Blessings,

Yeah…AVATAR really exceeded everyone’s expectations. It is definitely a breakthrough movie!

I have not contributed as I rarely go to the movies (popcorn is way too expensive LOL) I am amazed by the story line though. On the commercials all you see is dragons and aliens – I totally didn’t expect an alien Pocahontas story. Ah well, guess it works if they made billions!

Now the coke can car – that’s cool and original! I wish I was that talented too!

    Happy Tuesday!

    Trina :
Ah well, guess it works if they made billions!

It doesn’t work, it just proves that we, as a society have become absolute idiots who’ll jump onto any bandwagon that comes with a good enough marketing team.

“Hey dude, 3D is THE way to go this year”
I mean WTF? First its Mini Disks, then Blue Ray, then HD, now its 3d…

Maybe I’m jus an old fart at heart…

God I wish lived in times where you can just shoot morons who piss you off

Well, I’m glad you don’t have license to kill then 😉

The 3D effects are really fantastic – a lot of techno advances. I think the effects are worth the price of admission. I admire stuff like that.

James Cameron just failed with the story. That’s why I thought that Avatar = Pocahontas in Space is such a hoot!

I haven’t contributed to the Avatar/James Cameron billions and it’s unlikely I’ll do so in the near (or distant) future. I give him props for ‘Terminator’ and ‘Aliens,’ but eye popping 3d won’t impress me one bit if the story is pants. I’ll probably go and see ‘Sex and drugs and Rock ‘N Roll,’ ‘A Single Man,’ or ‘The Hurt Locker’ instead. As for the aluminium car man, what a great way to make something out of not very much. Me like very much.

Absolutely agree on Avatar … it wasn’t even an intelligent retelling of the Pocahontas story. Dumbest thing in the film was the name of the mineral they were after … “unobtainium.” Could they have been less creative or was it an inside joke? LOVED the effects and 3D though.

    Time off? I’d write …

Well, I don’t think there is anything wrong with free enterprise and if they have the marketing skills to make billions then good for them. If it were you that made the billions I believe you would not have written the reply you left here.
I have not seen the movie so I can’t say much about the effects or if I think the whole thing is a good or bad idea. I can say that your comment to just go around shooting people that you think are morons shows that you believe you are much better then most, I too am glad you do not live in these times I don’t know what we would do without our beloved Trina!

      Hear! Hear!

I would recommend the movie actually – only I’d always add the caveat that the actual storyline sucks. But the 3D effects are definitely entertaining. Pandora is beautiful!!!
