Another Useful FREE E-Book for the Aspiring Author
I found another FREE e-book that could be useful to the aspiring author (to add to the books I posted about before).
For a limited time, you can download this ebook ‘The Storyteller’s Art: How Not to Bore Your Reader to Sleep, Tears, or Homicide’ by Francis Porretto. That title’s a mouthful, but I think it’d be interesting to check out the author’s suggestions, and it’s free anyway.
Ebook Description:
Do you want to tell memorable, vivid, life-altering stories? With plots that embed real knowledge about the natures and ways of men? Do you want to create characters that will haunt your readers’ dreams? Do you want to learn the discipline to unite all the above, without overdressing your plots or distoring your characters to make them serve a theme for which they’re ill-equipped? Start here!

So, Who Did You Vote For @ the American Idol Top 24 (Men’s Edition)?

Man, no wonder the PR Department of AI kept on pushing ‘a woman will win this year’ – because if the ladies’ night Top 24 was underwhelming for many people, tonight’s men’s edition was a virtual bloodbath. If you missed the show, don’t bother. You didn’t miss anything. If you still insist on watching it, head on to Rickey.Org who has high quality videos up on his site. You’ve been warned though.
I can’t even muster up a Top 3 for the night. It was a boring and very uncomfortable night where I just felt either sorry for the contestants (who looked like they were just about shitting in their pants in fear) or just couldn’t wait for them to stop singing (since it was that bad). No one stood out (except in a bad way), no one seemed like a star, no one I’m particularly looking forward to at all. That is bad. Danny Gokey should have auditioned this year – he would walk away with the prize without breaking a sweat.
The ones who didn’t quite suck as bad as the rest were: Andrew Garcia singing “Sugar We’re Going Down” by Fall Out Boy, Casey James singing “Heaven” by Bryan Adams and Michael Lynche singing “This Love” by Maroon 5. And that’s the best I can say, they didn’t suck quite as much as the rest.
Andrew Garcia has a semi-appealing schtick going on right now converting pop songs to acoustic versions, but it’s only the top 24 and I’m already tired of it. Casey James has a nice bluesy way of singing, but I didn’t find that performance particularly memorable either. Same with Michael Lynche who competently sang ‘This Love’.
And don’t get me started on Todrick Hall’s funked up version of ‘Since U Been Gone’. Yes, you’re supposed to make songs your own, but you’re not supposed to lobotomize them and suck out all the life & soul out of the song either. Big fail.
