Bargain Alert! 1 TB External Hard Drives for less than $100!

Most of everything I have is digitized – personal photos and videos in HD, music videos of my favorite artists, MP3s or MP4s, and yup, I have more Adam Lambert HD video downloads than I ever imagined I ever needed (and in my defense, turns out I did need those downloads since he never sings anything the exact same way, and he has been on a world promo tour where he’s been singing his face off as usual). Now, these all translate to bytes -> kilobytes -> megabytes -> gigabytes … you get my drift? And these of course translate to an urgent need for MORE MORE MORE storage space!

I figure, I can’t be the only person in the same boat, right? I really would like to thank whoever invented these portable external hard drives since they’re such an easy source of extra storage – all just plug and play, no software or installation needed, an idiot can use them since all you need to do is just drag and drop files into the drives, and I’ve never really had problems with any of the external drives I’ve bought before (the first one I bought was just 30GB and I was pretty happy with the storage space then!)  Maybe it’s because I just use them for storage and back-up and they’re not exposed to the relentless hard work my computer internal drives are subjected to. But I sure have had computer drives fail again and again, while my portable ones are okay. So, to anyone else who has already filled up their hard drives AND other external drives – here are some options for external hard drives that are available for around $80 more or less.

The Seagate Expansion 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive is currently on sale at just $89.99 (regular price $103.99).

I like the way it looks, very plain and unobstrusive; it’s pretty portable too at just 3 pounds. I’ve owned Seagate drives in the past, and I haven’t had any break down on me yet. And I’ve also always been happy with data transfer speeds. I haven’t measured the speed or anything, but transferring 500-700 MB vids take place at next to no time for me!

The Western Digital WD Elements 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive is another option if you’re not a Seagate person.

It’s also on sale at $87.99 (regular price $129.99), and is pretty much like the Seagate drive except that WD drives are smaller and lighter – this one is only around 2 pounds. I’ve owned a Seagate drive before and this was the one I dragged around with me since it was the tiniest one I had. It’s black and sleek and you pretty much forget it’s plugged in since it never makes a sound or heats up (that I’ve experienced).

Last but not the least, the Iomega Prestige 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive is still on sale at $89.99 (regular price $172.99). I bought one last year when it was the only 1 TB external drive being sold for less than $100.

I’ve been pretty happy with my drive, and it sure looks pretty on my desk with its stylish aluminum casing! But like I said, in the short months in between, what with countless photos and videos from all the holidays and celebrations, and yes, my obsession with certain singers…. well… it’s time for me to buy a new hard drive again! I’m still choosing and I haven’t decided which from these three I’ll get…
