Avenues for Self-Promotion for Indie Authors?

I was just going through the WordPress Book Bloggers Directory, and there’s quite a number of indie authors who use their blogs as a way of self-promotion. Which led me to wonder what other avenues are open for indie authors to market their books (since they don’t have the might of a PR team of a publisher behind them)?
Anyway, I looked around at the different eBook forums for suggestions on how the successful indies are doing it, and I’ve decided that if I had a book out, these are some of the things I’d do to get the word out … (Warning, I’m not an author or an expert, these are suggestions gleaned from trolling through the net)
