Frost (The Frost Chronicles)

Describe your book ‘Frost (The Frost Chronicles)‘ in ten words or less

Forbidden romance, monster-infested forests, and a frozen fantasy world.

Where or how did you come up with the idea for your story?

Well, the book idea evolved out of a short story I was writing a few months ago, but it’s safe to say the actual novel is FAR from that original short story. The only think that stayed the same is the main dilemma–what does the main character do when she discovers a wounded and bleeding young man in the forest?

Which of your characters is closest to your heart and why?

In FROST, my secondary character Ivy is one of my favorites. She’s the main character’s younger sister, and she’s a daydreamer just like me.

Do you have a day job? If yes, tell us about it and how did that affect your writing / publishing process?

I used to work in a school, and my job allowed enough downtime that I could daydream about story ideas and make plans for future novels. Now I write full-time, and that is a blessing and a curse. It’s wonderful to have the time I need to write, but sometimes I go into full procrastination mode and get nothing done.

Tell us about an upcoming book or project you’re excited about

I’m working on the sequel to FROST right now. It’s called THORNS, and it continues the story about Lia.

Bonus Question! Fill in the blank: If you like ___, you’ll probably like my book too!

Robin McKinley
Megan Whalen Turner

(Video) Official Trailer for Les Miserables! (Starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway)

Popout: Official Trailer for Les Miserables

It’s here – the official trailer for Les Miserables (starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway)! The trailer has Anne Hathaway (as Fantine) singing ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ – have to say that while I was surprised at the slower arrangement (and it’s not sung operatically), Anne does emote the hell out of it. Heartbreaking!

Now I hope that they’ll have spots featuring Hugh and Russell!

P.S. Les Miserables: The 10th Anniversary Dream Cast in Concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall DVD is down to $24.63! 🙂

May 30, 2012 Leave a comment

Hi all! So, it’s the end of May and that means we’ve just wrapped up Cozy Mystery month on on the blog’s ‘Indie Saturday‘ series.

Just announcing that June has been slated Kids’ Books Month (from picture books for the young ‘uns to middle-grade age books), and we just wanted to give a special shout-out to kid blogger ERIK of THIS KID REVIEWS BOOKS! blog for nominating practically all the authors we will be featuring in June.

Erik is a 10-year-old book lover who blogs about books. His blog has the tagline: “A Place for Kids and Parents to discover books“. And you will – he features book reviews or special book events (like Children’s Book Week) regularly on the blog. And Erik was a total sweetheart when we asked for his help in nominating books to feature on Indie Saturday for June. Basically, these books have his stamp of approval – read, reviewed and recommended. Thanks Erik!

‘5 Questions’ with Kay Bratt!

5 Questions

Chasing China; A Daughter's Quest for Truth

Describe your book ‘Chasing China; A Daughter’s Quest for Truth‘ in ten words or less

Mia searches for answers as to why she was abandoned as a toddler

Where or how did you come up with the idea for your story?

I lived in China for several years and worked with orphans who were abandoned. I imagined that as the children grew, so did their curiousity and longing to know why they were abandoned.

Which of your characters is closest to your heart and why?

My main character, Mia, is the closest to my heart because she is a creation of many girls I met and loved in China. Girls who only longed to feel wanted and to be a part of a family. I wanted Mia to find answers to the questions that would bring her peace.

Do you have a day job? If yes, tell us about it and how did that affect your writing / publishing process?

I am also a volunteer director for an organization that supports children in China. In all of my titles, I try to use my love of writing and the goal of weaving a good tale to raise awareness of issues affecting women and children in Asia.

Tell us about an upcoming book or project you’re excited about

I’ve just finished revisions to a new project titled “A Thread Unbroken“. The story chronicles the journey of two girls in China who are abducted and sold to a family in a remote fishing village to be groomed as future brides. The story will show the tenacity and courage of one of the girls as she never gives up her will to find her way home.

Bonus Question! Fill in the blank: If you like ___, you’ll probably like my book too!

Much of my inspiration for my writing comes from authors Lisa See and Amy Tan. While they are much more experienced and well known than I, I strive to build the same substantial fan base and reputation as an advocate for China that they have.
