Describe your book Under An Orange Sun, Some Days Are Blue in ten words or less
“Under An Orange Sun, Some Days Are Blue” is the story of one man’s attempt to figure out what works in life and what doesn’t.
Where or how did you come up with the idea for your story?
It’s based on my own life after tragedy struck.
At first, I couldn’t write about this. Then, I had an epiphany. I realized that the story I wanted to tell was not only a story about finding hope again, but it was also a story about getting back to work again and re-evaluating long held principles.
When I told this story through the lens of my career as a Hollywood screenwriter, with all its ups and downs, and some of the ruthlessness and kindness, the story came together.
What was your favorite part to write and why?
My favorite part of the book is where I test all the positive thinking mantras that I’ve heard all my life and really put them to the test in my own life. I hold them accountable. Do they work or don’t they?
Do you have a day job? If yes, tell us about it and how did that affect your writing / publishing process?
I’m screenwriter and I’m a adjunct professor at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts.
So my background as a screenwriter affected the way I structured my story. I shaped it like a thriller. One reviewer said “it reads like the search for the Holy Grail.” I was happy to see that because I rewrote the book a number of times to make sure the reader always had to turn to page to find out what happens next.
Tell us about an upcoming book or project you’re excited about
My new book is coming out next month. It’s a science fiction thriller. It’s completely different than “Under An Orange Sun.” It’s much more like the stories I write as a screenwriter. I’m not ready to say anything more about it, but I’ll let you know what the title is and when it comes very soon.
