Describe your book The Gauguin Connection (Genevieve Lenard) in ten words or less
The Gauguin Connection combines art crime and body language in a complex mystery.
Where or how did you come up with the idea for your story?
On the treadmill!
The main character is high functioning autistic and I liked the complications that created in her life.
This series, of which The Gauguin Connection is the first, really combines all my passions: music, art, crime, conspiracy theories, politics and psychology.
Which of your characters (in this book) is closest to your heart and why?
I would have to say Genevieve, the main character.
She’s socially completely inept because of her autism, yet she has moments that she tries really hard to not offend anyone. Despite all this, she still pushes herself to develop, to allow people to touch her (literally) and to make friends while she’s solving a mystery.
But I just have to say that the whole cast of characters have a very special place in my heart!
If you weren’t a full-time author, what other career would you be in and why?
I’ve always said that this one life is simply not long enough!!
I would love to live a least 18 life times so that I can be a scientist, actress, doctor, detective, business tycoon, singer, hippie artist, farmer, musician, teacher, professor of literature, helicopter pilot, explorer, archeologist… I think I should stop now! Seriously, at least 18 life times.
Tell us about an upcoming book or project you’re excited about
I’m half way through Genevieve’s next adventure. This book should be published early next year. I’m working really hard to have it ready for the end of February, but there are no promises.
Again Genevieve and her crew will be investigating crimes involving art. This time is a series of crimes that leads her to a very unexpected villain.
Bonus Question! Fill in the blank: If you like ___, you’ll probably like my book too!
Kathy Reichs, Tess Gerritson, Christopher Reich
