FREE iTunes Download – Pilot Episode of ‘Smash’ (NBC)

January 16, 2012 Leave a comment

For a limited time, you can download the pilot episode of the new musical series ‘Smash‘ (NBC) from iTunes even before it airs! Click here to download the episode titled “The hit-making Broadway writing team of Julia Houston“!

I haven’t seen it yet, so don’t know if it’s any good, but I’ve seen the previews and they do look fun. Starring Debra Messing, Anjelica Houston, Christian Borle and American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee. Looks like this is Kat McPhee’s chance for superstardom if this becomes a big hit!

Series Description:

There’s nothing more exciting than the opening night of a hit Broadway musical, except maybe what happens getting there. While Wicked and The Lion King pack audiences in on the Great White Way, Julia and Tom, a successful songwriting team played by Debra Messing and Christian Borle, begin work on a new musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. When a tenacious producer (Anjelica Houston) jumps aboard, so begins the difficult task of casting the silver screen icon. Ivy Lynn, a tough Broadway veteran, seems like the obvious choice. But enter Karen Cartwright (Katharine McPhee), a young girl from Iowa with a dream of making it on Broadway who walks in and blows everyone away. So who will get the part and begin a journey that will change their lives? It’s an age-old story, but a star just might be born once again. While everyone is consumed with putting the show together, real life has a tendency of getting in the way. Julia and her husband are in the middle of a complicated adoption; the producer’s husband begins divorce proceedings which could threaten the finances of the show; and the brilliant but womanizing director could derail everything if he puts the young star in a compromising position. This will be a rollercoaster ride that culminates on opening night when the audience gets to determine whether or not the show is a smash! In the era of The Voice and Glee, executive producers Steven Spielberg and Craig Zadan & Neil Meron (producers of Chicago and Hairspray), and songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray), bring you the blood, sweat, and tears of the making of a Broadway musical.

iTunes is offering a FREE download of the entire first season of the ABC TV series ’10 Things I Hate About You’ for this week. I’ve never watched it, so can’t say anything about it. Head on to iTunes for the free download.

Here’s the show’s description if you want to check it out.

Sisters Bianca (Meaghan Jette Martin) and Kat (Lindsey Shaw) are two very different people. At their new high school, it’s clear that one sister wants to stand out and the other just wants to fit in.

Kat is a strong-willed feminist looking to save the world and get out of school as fast as she can. But when she meets the intense Patrick Verona (Ethan Peck), sparks begin to fly.

Bianca is a social butterfly whose main goal in life is to be popular, but when the head cheerleader makes her the mascot, she realizes she has a long way to go.

As they start a bumpy year at Padua High, will Kat and Bianca be able to navigate the challenges of the popular crowd, guys and their over-protective dad (Larry Miller)?

Official Movie Trailer – John Woo’s ‘Red Cliff’

November 18, 2009 Leave a comment

Whoa – I am so watching this movie – it looks pretty awesome! But that’s lame-o about the cuts – how about the audiences who are willing to sit through two 2 1/2 hour movies to get the whole experience? I know … wait for the effin’ DVD.

About the film:

The most expensive Chinese movie ever made … the war epic took four and a half years to film. Woo’s vision of bringing the 13th century Chinese novel “Romance of the Three Kingdoms” to the big screen…

To please American audiences, Woo agreed to make some cuts — about two and a half hours worth. “Red Cliff” was released as two movies in Asia, each two and a half hours long.

Both versions of “Red Cliff” are based on the real-life battle of the same name in 208 A.D. that helped lead to a unified southern China. As almost every schoolchild in China knows, the battle was between the massive army led by the war-mongering Prime Minister Cao Cao (played by Zhang Fengyi in the movie) against two warlords who stand in his way. Only through the guile of the warlords’ strategists, Kong Ming (Takeshi Kaneshiro) and Zhou Yu (Tony Leung, reunited with his “Hard Boiled” director), do the severely undermanned good guys have any chance at all. It all leads to an unprecedented climactic battle that in Woo’s movie is fought by thousands of extras clad in 20 pounds of painstakingly recreated armor. His production team built a working flotilla of 25 warships, with the rest of the armada of hundreds of boats added later through CGI.
