Book Blogger Hop

Here’s my fourth time to join the Book Blogger Hop (via Crazy For Books blog) Thought this would be a good opportunity for me to connect with other book lovers out there in cyberspace 🙂 The Hop lasts Friday-Monday so there’ll be plenty of time to check the other participating blogs out!

So here’s the question of the week:

“Pick a character from a book you are currently reading or have just finished and tell us about him/her.”

My answer:

I’m currently reading Julia Karr’s XVI – a young adult novel that’s set in a dystopian future 2150 Chicago where a totalitarian government controls everyone (including the ad & sex-obsessed media), and where the people are economically/socially segregated into ‘Tiers‘ (like a caste system).

The ‘XVI‘ in the title refers to the government issue wrist tattoo that all girls get when they turn sixteen – a rite of passage signalling a girl’s freedom to start having sex that all teen girls look forward to. That is – except our main character Nina Oberon. Unlike her best friend Sandy (who’s a walking advertisement for the media-perpetrated sultry Sex-teen image), Nina isn’t ready to have sex with anyone or even have a boyfriend. With a home life terrorized by an abusive stepfather, that’s not really a surprise. Nina is deathly afraid that the XVI tattoo will only make her easy prey to predatory men. But that soon becomes the least of Nina’s problems when her mother is suddenly murdered before her birthday, and Nina becomes privy to a dangerous secret.

Nina is forced to grow up quickly as she struggles to learn the truth about her mother’s (and biological father’s) past, all while trying to save her younger half-sister from the clutches of her stepfather, and while dealing with the confusion of falling in love for the first time. I’m not yet finished with the book, but I’m really looking forward to what happens when Nina actually turns sixteen (with all that drama and danger in the weeks prior to that event, I can’t imagine what’s coming when Nina finally gets the tattoo!)

Looking forward to blog-hopping this weekend! 🙂

Book Blogger Hop

Here’s my third time to join the Book Blogger Hop (via Crazy For Books blog) Thought this would be a good opportunity for me to connect with other book lovers out there in cyberspace 🙂 The Hop lasts Friday-Monday so there’ll be plenty of time to check the other participating blogs out!

So here’s the question of the week:

“Do you read only one book at a time, or do you have several going at once?”

My answer:

I try to read only one book at a time since I don’t want to get confused about characters and plots (since I do write reviews). But sometimes, when I’m reading a really exciting story with lots of action, I prefer to have another book that’s a bit slower to read at bedtime. I like being able to sleep well, so I make sure not to bring the too exciting stuff (that’s sure to keep me up at night!) to bed with me. So, I guess the short answer is that I’ve been known to read two books at the same time.

Looking forward to blog-hopping this weekend! 🙂

Book Blogger Hop

Here’s my second time to join the Book Blogger Hop (via Crazy For Books blog) Thought this would be a good opportunity for me to connect with other book lovers out there in cyberspace 🙂 The Hop lasts Friday-Monday so there’ll be plenty of time to check the other participating blogs out!

So here’s the question of the week:

“What book(s) would you like to see turned into a movie?”

My answer:

I’d love to see Scott Westerfeld’s Leviathan turned into a movie (here’s my review of the book). It’s a YA steampunk fantasy set in an alternate WWI universe where the war is between Clankers (who use machine technology) versus Darwinists (who use advanced genetic techniques). I’d love to see how the world looks like in CGI – plus it features a budding romance between a young Prince Aleksandar and a young girl Deryn in the British Air Service who are both pretending to be people they are not 🙂

Actually, I’d love to see any of Scott Westerfeld’s YA books turned into movies, from his Midnighters series to the Uglies series (check out Scott Westerfeld’s bibliography for more). He’s one of the more talented YA authors out there.

And of course, I’m also looking forward to blog-hopping this weekend! 🙂

Book Blogger Hop

Thought I’d try something new today and join the Book Blogger Hop (via Crazy For Books blog) Thought this would be a good opportunity for me to connect with other book lovers out there in cyberspace 🙂 The Hop lasts Friday-Monday so there’ll be plenty of time to check the other participating blogs out!

So here’s the question of the week:

“What are you reading now and why are you reading it?”

My answer:

I am currently reading Stephen King’s latest Full Dark, No Stars on my Kindle. My dad (a die-hard King fan) bought it, and since I’m sharing his Kindle account, I get to read it for free (and without waiting for him to finish reading – a benefit of the Kindle)!

Full Dark, No Stars is a collection of four novellas, and I’ve already finished with the first one “1922” which is about the unravelling of a man’s life after he commits a murder – very creepy and yet also heartbreaking story. I was disappointed with King’s previous book Under the Dome, but with this 4-novella collection, looks like he’s got his mojo back! Already looking forward to reading the other stories: “Big Driver,” “A Good Marriage,” and “Fair Extension.”

And of course, I’m also looking forward to blog-hopping this weekend! 🙂
