World Premiere of Danny Gokey’s Debut Single – It’s Only

November 6, 2009 Leave a comment
[picapp src=”e/c/b/6/American_Idols_perform_e2a8.JPG?adImageId=7158270&imageId=5468438″ width=”380″ height=”475″ /]

Update 2 : Here’s a live version of Danny Gokey singing ‘It’s Only’ @ the Dream Center (Video Here)

Update : There is a Radio edit version of ‘It’s Only’ that’s streaming on FM 106.1 – click here to stream. So, they know you’re listening. And this is the DL link (right click, save). Also, pretty good review from EW critic Tim Stack saying ” I could totally see this song becoming a big country hit for Gokey.”

So, Danny Gokey just had his first single ‘It’s Only’ debut on FM 106.1 (a Milwaukee country station) this morning. The song is written by Dave and Charles from Lady Antebellum and produced by Mark Bright. Have a listen (I cut out all the DJ talking parts so it may sound abruptly cut-off at the end – oh yeah – here’s an MP3 DL link for any lost Danny fans who visit my page somehow).

So, what is it with a ballad as a first single? I expected something more upbeat and utilizing Danny Gokey’s signature growlish sound. Instead, Danny does sensitive and falsetto here. My critique? He sounds very breathy especially in the first half and he’s a bit overpowered by the background orchestration, before finally hitting his stride on the chorus. Also, I could have done without the la-da-das.

BUT. Here’s the good part – ‘It’s Only’ has a very pretty melody and like a good country song, it tells a sentimental story with religious overtones. And this is definitely up Danny’s wheelhouse – Danny sings it very sincerely (sermon lyrics and all), and I think he could definitely strike a chord with the country music fans.

And yes, my head is exploding as I’m typing this… But maybe Danny may just end up with the break-out hit single from Season 8. Mark Bright (yup, he’s Carrie’s star-making producer btw) definitely knows what he’s doing.

TV Tirade: Ellen DeGeneres on “American Idol,” Kanye West on MTV, Jay Leno in Primetime and the End of “Guiding Light” by Ed Martin – this guy randomly reviewed the Bridgeport concert mid-article!

On a side note, I caught the sold-out American Idols concert at the Harbor Yard Arena in Bridgeport, Conn., last week and was knocked out by the talent on stage … Idol winner Kris Allen was ill that evening and could not perform, though he did come out on stage to personally apologize. That made the performance by runner-up Adam Lambert the grand finale of the show. To say he didn’t disappoint would be the mother of all understatements. Lambert was electrifying – the energy he generated on stage could barely be contained in the venue, which seats 10,000. I can’t imagine how Allen or anyone else could have followed him and not appeared diminished. Lambert is a super-nova. This guy knows what it takes to be an entertainer. Maybe Idol should have signed him as the fourth judge!

Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, Allison Iraheta LPs Won’t Be ‘Cookie-Cutter,’ Producer Insists By Jim Cantiello (with video)

“American Idol” season-eight alumni Kris Allen, Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta are as wildly different from each other as possible. But the trio — who are all set to release their debut post-“Idol” albums later this year — have one thing in common: They’re running to Kevin Rudolf for material.

… Rudolf has worked the most with fourth-place finisher Allison Iraheta, having completed one track with the fiery-haired rocker and writing a couple of other tunes to be considered for her album. “I think Allison is, like, probably one of the most talented singers out in the world right now,” Rudolf gushed. “She’s one of my favorite people I’ve ever worked with. Ever. She’s awesome.” … To me, she’s like the new Janis Joplin or Pat Benetar.” No surprise, then, that Rudolf described his collaboration as an “updated 2010 version” of Benetar’s “Hit Me With Your Best Shot.”

Rudolf … also had positive things to say about runner-up Adam Lambert, even though he only worked with him for “five or six hours” right before the American Idols Live! Tour kicked off in July. “He’s so cool, so open. … His voice is incredible. He can do anything he wants. It’s just a matter of choosing the right direction and homing in and saying, ‘This is my sound.’ ” Rudolf believes he knows what’s best for Adam. “We started a song that was … kind of like an updated, futuristic-rock, disco-ish thing.” As is the case with all post-“Idol” projects, Rudolf was not at liberty to reveal any song titles or lyrics, but he did announce that he plans to complete the “disco-ish” song with Lambert now that the “Idol” tour has wrapped up. “I’m gonna do some more stuff with him,” the visibly excited producer promised … Rudolf admitted that there are “a lot of chefs in the kitchen,” but he views that as a positive. “I don’t think it’s gonna go wrong. I know they’re all working with mostly really good-quality people.”

Also on Rudolf’s docket? A session with “Idol” champ Allen to take place “early in October,” approximately six weeks before Allen’s album is slated to drop.

Kris Allen on the Idols Tour

With only one performance left, Kris said he’s “going to miss singing for a lot of people every night. A lot of us will miss playing to big arenas. The Top 10 have been together for almost a year now, so it’s going to be really sad when we say goodbye. We’ve already started to make plans to meet up soon.”

As the winner of Season 8, Kris has been juggling the tour with recording his debut album. And on top of it all he’s still a newlywed. “Katy’s been busy with her job, but she has been able to come to a couple of shows.” Kris was willing to reveal some information about his upcoming album to us. The album will drop on November 17, 2009. “I’ve been able to write a little bit. We’re still working on it, and there’s still a lot of work left to do, but I’m excited about it. The single should be coming out very soon.” At this moment, Kris isn’t sure if he’ll be playing many instruments on the tracks; it all depends on what they have time for. Kris has been very busy with the 50 city Idol tour so he hasn’t had time to record any instrumentals thus far.

During Kris’ set on the American Idols LIVE! tour, he plays the acoustic guitar, the piano, the electric guitar, and during his performance of “Bright Lights” he plays both the piano and the electric guitar. When asked if his future concerts will be similar to his set on the Idols tour, Kris said, “I would say so. It would be a little bit of everything – like an extended version of my set.”

New Reviews: Muse, Kid Cudi and Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson (RollingStone Mag with their gratuitous Adam mention of the day…)

Fresh off their performance at MTV’s Video Music Awards, British prog-rockers Muse return with their fifth studio album, The Resistance, an LP packed with symphonic grandiose and humongous songs. American Idol’s Adam Lambert and Twilight fans the world over might very well love this album, but Rolling Stone gave the album three stars due to frontman Matthew Bellamy’s continued fixation with his idols. “Songs like the industrial-flavored ‘Uprising’ prove again that Muse know how to whip up an almighty roar,” Jody Rosen writes in his review, “But the lyrics are pompous doggerel (’Coercive notions re-evolve/A universe is trapped inside a tear’), and they borrow shamelessly from Radiohead and Queen without the former’s musical invention or the latter’s cheeky swagger.”

American Idols concert at War Memorial felt like two separate shows

The contestants performed in the order in which they were eliminated on the show, starting with Michael Sarver and ending with Kris Allen. The show felt like two separate concerts, the first half being a mix of slightly stale pop and R&B and the second some pretty impressive rock ‘n roll.

Kris Allen’s First Single Is Called ‘Live Like We’re Dying’

For about 1 hour, Kris Allen answered fans’ questions on Twitter. Among those being addressed by him were his new album and its lead single. He wrote yes when quizzed whether the song is titled “Live Like We’re Dying”. Kris stated there is “no date yet” for the song…

Upcoming CD Releases, 9/15/09 By Adam Graham

This fall, plenty of musical hitmakers are releasing new records. Here’s a look at some upcoming titles.
Adam Lambert, title TBA (Nov. 24): The “American Idol” runner-up is the most exciting contestant the show has seen in years, despite not winning the “Idol” title. For his debut, the glammy rocker has enlisted the help of Swedish pop mastermind Max Martin (Britney, Kelly Clarkson), among others.
Another year, another crop of “American Idol” albums. Among them: Kris Allen, Title TBA (Nov.); Allison Iraheta, Title TBA (November); Carrie Underwood, “Play On” (Nov. 3); Blake Lewis, “Heartbreak on Vinyl” (Oct. 6); David Archuleta, “Christmas from the Heart” (Oct. 13); and Katharine McPhee, “Unbroken” (Oct. 6).

‘American Idols’ Live hits the ‘Cuse by Donna Reynolds

… Allison came roaring out on the stage with an electric guitar on Pink’s “So What.” I found it interesting to watch this somewhat shy girl transform into a rock siren! Allison followed that up with Janis Joplin’s “Cry Baby.” Wow. She prowled the stage and tore this one up! Allison closed with Heart’s “Barracuda,” which she ripped to shreds!
… Kudos to the lighting crew for ramping things up with explosions of light to bring Adam to the stage. He opened with Led Zepplin’s “Whole Lot of Love” in which he gyrated, twisted, and pranced the audience into a frenzy. He followed that with Muse’s “Starlight,” a rather obscure song that highlighted his head voice. Adam is an amazing performer and draws on his theatrical background to create a rock ‘n roll character that is very convincing. But it was his version of “Mad World” that impressed me the most. Sitting on a stool with a spotlight, he sold this song to the audience once again, bringing that same element of mystery and surprise he brought to the performance on Idol. Allison joined Adam for a reprieve of their “Slow Ride” duet. It was outstanding! They’ve really perfected this one, complete with some back-to-back grinds that had the women in the audience positively swooning. During this one, Adam toyed with the audience, tossing back items that had been thrown up on the stage (a black bra, some kind of little whip, and a yellow feather boa). Adam closed with a David Bowie medley, including “Life on Mars.” “Fame,” and “Let’s Dance.” He certainly did not hold back on the dance moves, and showed he is, well, quite flexible! His voice seemed a bit strained on this one, most likely due to his having been sick over the weekend. Still, he was outstanding and left the audience was chanting his name as a curtain dropped in anticipation of Kris Allen’s performance.
After Adam’s theatrics, Kris Allen’s set seemed a tad anti-climatic. Still, his repertoire was solid, and included a much richer version of “Heartless,” The Killers’ “All These Things I’ve Done,” which replaced “No Boundaries,” a solid rendition of “Ain’t No Sunshine,” and Matchbox 20’s “Bright Lights” on which he kicked some serious butt on guitar. Kris closed his set with “Hey Jude,” getting the audience involved, and then bringing the rest of the Idols back out on the stage. Without even faking an ending, the group launched into Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” intermingled with a chorus of “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye.”
The Idols will close their tour Tuesday in Manchester, N.H. On Wednesday, the scatter to the winds, their Idol journey over. Adam, Kris, Danny, and Allison have signed record deals and will be getting their albums ready for release. Michael seems to have a deal in the works and I’ve heard Matt’s been approached to play keyboards for a well-known band. Scott has produced an album of his own that he will be releasing later this fall and Anoop is going to continue to pursue a record deal. Megan is said to be considering modeling. There’s no word as to what Lil has planned.

Idols share a thought or three before War Memorial show in Syracuse by Mark Bialczak

Allison Iraheta smiled widely when I told her I was the reporter who spoke to her a couple of weeks ago for a question-and-answer story. “Hi, dude!” she said. Iraheta says she was surprised to hear the news last week that talk show host Ellen DeGeneres was chosen to be the fourth “AI” judge this season, replacing Paula Abdul. “I didn’t say, ‘Of course!’ It wasn’t an obvious pick to me. I was surprised,” Iraheta said. “Then I said, ‘OK, why not? People will be down with that.’ ”
Also awkward at times is when fans approach her when she’s in public, say, buying a cup of coffee in Starbucks. “It gets a little annoying. I can’t blend in. I’ve got this bright, red hair. I’m a target,” Iraheta says. “But it’s what I asked for.”
She says her favorite moment TV show moment came from the careful consideration given the contestants’ work by the celebrity mentors. “Jamie Foxx. Quentin Tarentino. I was so grateful,” she says. They told her to be true to herself, and she’s followed that advice every day,” Iraheta says.
Last up for me in the rotation was Adam Lambert, this year’s runner-up to Kris Allen. Lambert said he didn’t get the chance to explore the cities he visited on the tour much, but he knows where he’d like to return. “I was really refreshed by the deep South,” says Lambert. “It was an area I hadn’t visited, and I was impressed by the warmth and enthusiasm. There was a charm and noblesse oblige to the people.”
Lambert says he’s convinced that his appearance on “American Idol” has brought him to a status he’d not have achieved otherwise. “The music business now is so tough,” he says. “To be signed (to a record deal) you have to be a sure thing. I thought the only way I could make it would be to have a platform like ‘American Idol.’ ”
His debut recording is half finished, Lambert says. “We’ll jump right into recording after the tour. It will be a lot of work,” says Lambert, who added that he’s “co-written in large handfuls” for the album. Asked about the style, he said he came up with his own perfect description just last night. “It is a sonic dress-up party,” Lambert says. “It has it’s theatricality. It has a pop vein. It’s very catchy and radio-friendly. It has a lot of rock elements, and dance elements.”

One-on-one with the Idols by Donna Reynolds

The contestants from ‘American Idol 8’ are in town and before Monday’s show, the local media was invited to a press hour for interviews. We each had five minutes to spend with the five Idols chosen to participate – Scott MacIntyre, Michael Sarver, Allison Iraheta, Anoop Desai, and Adam Lambert.
Allison Iraheta
Allison came out to the press area wearing a black silk kimono and riding piggy-back on Michael Sarver! We talked about the album she is recording and she told me it’s all rock! She says her style is similar to Pink (the old stuff), Kelly Clarkson, and Katy Perry. She said she’s in the process of sorting through the songs she’s recorded. We talked briefly about Kelly Clarkson and she was flattered when I told her she reminded me a lot of Kelly. Allison told me this experience has really helped build her self-confidence. This is what she’s always wanted to do, and she says she feels blessed to have been given this opportunity.
Adam Lambert
Of all the Idols I interviewed, Adam was the most relaxed and chatty. He told me he is still amazed at the level of fan support he’s gotten and that he was so grateful that people accept him for who he is. He said he’s tried to stay true to himself throughout the experience and figured people would either accept him or not. Still, the fan mania blows him away every night and he is still in awe of the way people behave towards him! He said that before Idol, he was making a good living as, in his words, a “chorus boy” and understudy, but wanted to go in a different direction. He took a shot at Idol because he thought the national TV might land him better gigs. He said at each point in the process, he was surprised that he had progressed to the next level, but that in January, he had what he described as an “epiphany” where he knew he needed to think positively.
We talked about his upcoming album. While it’s due out November 24, he said he isn’t anywhere near finished. As soon as the tour is over, he’s headed back to L.A. and will work fulltime to get it done. He said he works better under pressure and is pretty excited about the process. We talked about the type of music he’s recording and he says not to expect “classic” rock. That’s been done, he said, and he is going in a different direction, more dance/pop oriented. He said it’s hard to explain, really, and said people were just going to have to wait to hear it!
I asked if he’d seen Lady GaGa’s performance on the VMAs and he lit up! He truly admire her theatrical style and when I asked if he saw himself as a similar type of artist, he nodded. He’s excited about the future and can’t wait for the next phase to begin.

Are Gays Helping Make Your Brand Hot (or Not)? by Simon Dumenco (Q&A With Out’s Aaron Hicklin with Adam mention…)

Simon Dumenco: Before we talk about your magazine, first tell me about your September cover girl, Lady Gaga. Give me a quick take on why she matters to the culture at large right now, and why she blew up so big so quickly. I mean, I get her appeal to gays — she seems up on her queer-pop studies, from Freddie Mercury [her stage name is inspired, in fact, by Queen’s “Radio Ga Ga”] to glam-rock-era Bowie — but why is she connecting so powerfully as a mainstream phenomenon?
Aaron Hicklin: One of the things that’s really interested me since I came to Out is to document that space where mainstream and gay sensibilities converge, and Lady Gaga really seems to have worked it out — and not just in Europe where, for example, the Scissor Sisters achieved much the same thing, but in the U.S., where it’s traditionally a much harder feat to pull off. Plus she’s worked out that there’s no such thing as overexposure. That’s why the Madonna comparison seems so apt. What they both share is huge ambition, a ridiculous work ethic and talent. Pop was feeling tedious and predictable, and in the course of the summer Gaga made it glamorous and kinky. Who doesn’t want that?
Dumenco: I don’t know, maybe the people who voted for Kris Allen instead of Adam Lambert on “American Idol”?
Hicklin: Talking of which, I heard that it’s all very egalitarian at Adam Lambert concerts: The girls throw their underwear at him, the gay boys throw their Calvins. If that’s not a reflection of a major cultural shift, I don’t know what is.
Dumenco: [laughter] I see your point. Anyway, do you happen to remember who was on the very first Out cover?

Rappers, Singers Unite to Bash Kanye (TMZ)

We got Pitbull last night after the show, where he called Kanye a “f**king disrespectful motherf**ker” — and he’s not alone. Just check out these Twitter updates.

Lambert, Allen star in Idol concert BY RICK MASSIMO

… Lambert, who was greeted by frenzied screams even during his appearances on pre-show video clips, threw down the gauntlet by tearing into Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” with vocal power and stage presence to spare. Through the over-the-top emotionalism of Muse’s “Starlight” and especially a Bowie medley, the androgyny and ambiguity that were his trademark on the TV show translated easily to the stage (though a disco-fied “Let’s Dance” didn’t really hit). He rendered nearly all previous contenders’ attempts at regular guy-ism and girl-ism quaint (save Allison Iraheta, who worked in a similarly high-drama manner and came back to share the stage with Lambert on “Slow Ride”).
Then came Allen, who started by accompanying himself on acoustic guitar (this was the first season competitors were allowed to do so on the TV show) for the nondescript rock ballad “Heartless.” The conventionality and versatility of his strong, deep voice is clearly the reason he won — the way he cut through “All These Things That I’ve Done” and “Bright Lights” were clear examples, and his guitar solo on the latter kicked the whole thing up a notch — but the weaknesses of the concert format, with the singer in front and everyone else in the shadows, didn’t serve him. He did show a relaxed but insistent stage presence on the closing “Hey Jude,” though.
… it was clear the cream of the crop had risen to the top, as Allison Iraheta (plus guitar) opened the second half by tearing through the rockers “So What” and “Barracuda,” with the ballad “Cry Baby” in the middle.

Fans in a fever as hot talents make concert stop By DAVID HENCH

… The concert is strictly performance, no competition. “It’s more stressful to be on the show,” Allison Iraheta said before the show. On tour, the contestants are a big dysfunctional family, she says with a chuckle – but they are all very supportive of one another.
Lambert, whose goth attire and powerful voice pushed the show’s boundaries, is friendly and engaging, happy to talk about how touring with a theater company in Europe for six months helped him discover himself, and how the underground, alternative scene in Los Angeles has kept him grounded. He is fond of Egyptian imagery, ever since his mother gave him a set of rubber stamps representing hieroglyphics.
Now, he sports an Eye of Horus tattoo on the inside of his wrist, and wears Egyptian-inspired jewelry.
For those interested, his ideal partner is someone with honesty, passion, creativity and loyalty and he values communication in a relationship.

It’s DAY FORTY-EIGHT of the American Idols Season 8 Live! Tour at the Arena at Harbor Yard (Bridgeport, CT). I’m gathering all the articles/reviews/videos/interviews here. All tweets are left behind in this post. For a round-up of Tour/Album news for Adam and Kris, click here.

Fair warning : I only care about Adam/Kris/Allison…

Check back – once they are up, All PERFORMANCE VIDEOS (Adam/Kris/Allison) will be on PAGE 2. The Rest of the Top 10 will be on PAGE 3. Looks like this is one of those disappointing stops, video-wise…

TV Tirade: Ellen DeGeneres on “American Idol,” Kanye West on MTV, Jay Leno in Primetime and the End of “Guiding Light” by Ed Martin

Hope and Regret, Recorded and Live

KRIS ALLEN The aw-shucks winner of “American Idol” has the benefit of reasonable expectations as he tackles his major-label debut; compared to this season’s runner-up, Adam Lambert, he seems very much like the underdog. Of course he’ll be working with top producers, pitching in with some songwriting and exuding his unassuming charm. Nov. 17. 19/Jive. (N. C.)
ADAM LAMBERT Will the flamboyant runner-up of last season’s “American Idol” manage to throw a wrench in the blanding machine operated by 19, the multimedia outfit connected to the show itself? Will he opt for a different touring concept, one that includes burlesque revues and “Rocky Horror” singalongs in B-markets, amid the usual Ticketmaster shed-shows? Will he tame that outrageous falsetto? November. RCA. (B. R.)

American Idol Season 8: Exclusive Interview with Megan Joy, Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre, Matt Giraud, and Danny Gokey – thought the info on their future plans was interesting…

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Now that the tour is wrapping up, what are your future plans?
A. Megan: I don’t have a record deal or anything but I am making music. I’m gonna start a band and I’ll just do it on my own, even if it’s just underground and my own thing.
A. Lil: For me, I have a couple of meetings after the tour is up and hopefully, I’ll be in the land of record deals and get album out. If I don’t get a whole album out by next year, I’ll definitely have a single out.
A. Scott: I am about midway through my album right now. I’ll be working on that a lot when I get off of tour. You can go to myspace.com/Scott MacIntyre and hear some of what’s going on the album. There’s an EP on ITunes and Amazon, part of the album that will be coming out. I’m really excited. It’s all original music, kind of along the lines of Gavin DeGraw, John Mayer… all those singer/songwriter acts.
A. Matt: I’m going towards Jamie Cullum, James Morrison type stuff. I wanna get back to the piano. Different labels have come out to watch me. Right now, I’m just writing. We have a little keyboard in the back so I’m working on a few songs. It’s kind of crazy because there’s a lot more opportunity, now that the tour is over.
A. Danny: I start my album this month. The single should be released in November, from what I heard from the record label, and the album in March. Before the show, I only did gospel music and being on Idol helps you define who you are as an artist. As the show progressed, I figured it out and I ended up signing with a country label because I feel like that’s where I fit the most. The message, the sound… it fits me and I’m very excited about it.

EXCLUSIVE: Adam Lambert Has Elton John’s Number, Talks New LP – by Ralphie Aversa (you can download the audio) – an interviewer who asks new questions!!! how rare is that…

“Hmm… the most famous contact in my phone?” Adam Lambert pondered before answering, “Elton John.”
During our conversation backstage before American Idols Live, Lambert revealed Better Than Ezra’s Kevin Griffin is not possible songwriter for Lambert’s forthcoming LP… “I don’t know who Kevin is. That was actually a surprise to me, when I read that on MTV,” said Lambert. “We haven’t talked to him at all. He hasn’t written anything… we don’t have any of his songs.”
Lambert himself described the LP as an audio version of playing dress-up. After the Idol tour wraps up, he’ll focus on picking around 12 songs from a list of 20. Also on the docket is a photo shoot for the album – as well as a title – which Lambert says won’t be picked until the track listing is set.

The Queen of Hollywood annexes another kingdom: Ellen joins “American Idol.” by Ed Kennedy

At yesterday’s taping of The Ellen Degeneres Show, our favorite power lesbian dropped a heck of a bombshell: She’s going to be the new permanent judge on American Idol. This capped what was already a pretty gay week for Idol.
First we had news that Adam Lambert was releasing his album on November 24th…

‘Last Time’ with Adam Lambert for OK! Magazine By Elena Gorgan

The upcoming issue of OK! Magazine (out on September 14) is a must read for all Adam Lambert fans, as it comes with a few brief quotes on things the rocker did recently. However, according to a scan recently surfaced online, this won’t be all that the mag will offer fans, as Adam will also be dishing out details on his upcoming album, his impressions on the Idol Live tour, and much more.

CONCERT CAPSULE: American Idol at Wachovia Arena by Brad Patton – from Wilkes Barre

Judging by the crowd’s reaction, the most popular seems to be runner-up Adam Lambert (they screamed every time his picture came up in the promos before the show), followed closely by champion Kris Allen and third-place finisher Danny Gokey.
Allison Iraheta kicked off the second half with a good dose of rock-star attitude on Pink’s “So What” and Heart’s “Barracuda.” … Audience-favorite Lambert stirred it up with his version of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” and a great David Bowie medley. Allen then finished up great renditions of “Heatless” and “Ain’t No Sunshine,” followed by an acoustic-guitar-driven sing-along “Hey Jude.”

DeGeneres: She’ll be honest but kind on `Idol’ By LYNN ELBER

“I know as much as anybody who goes out there and buys a record. I know what I like and I think I do know what is special and has the `it’ factor,” DeGeneres said in response, adding that she’s brought talented new artists to public attention on her talk show.
She hesitated to name her one favorite “Idol” contestant from years past, instead listing Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, Adam Lambert, Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler.

Musicians tackle sales drop By Andrew Leahey

Speaking of covers, “American Idol” alumni Kris Allen, Adam Lambert and Jason Castro will all release albums this fall, with Mr. Lambert’s record being the most anticipated of the bunch. All three singers will tackle original material, having performed other bands’ songs during their time on “Idol.” After eight seasons, the TV show desperately needs another artist on par with Kelly Clarkson and Miss Underwood, so expectations are high for the “Idol” graduates.
