Top Sites Tuesday – Two Thoughts on Tuesday
Hmmm… haven’t joined the BlogDumps Top Sites Tuesday in a long while! Guess I just haven’t had many deep thoughts lately, so, I thought I’d get really shallow this week!
Shallow Thought #1: When two society ladies air kiss or cheek kiss, how do they know which side to zoom in on?
I mean, is this somehow taught during etiquette lessons or something? Just imagine it, it’s a casual thing of greeting, you lean in, pucker up – I mean, what happens when you both aim for the same side and your lips end up where they’re not supposed to be? Do you size each other up, decide hmmm…. she’s a leftie… what?
Yeah, in my free time, I agonize over this 😉
Anyway, I was just curious how the rest of you Top Sites Tuesday participants figure this out 🙂
Shallow Thought #2: How many people suck in their stomachs when out in public?
There’s this movie with Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegate (The Sweetest Thing) where in the end credits, the ladies goof around and show off their tummy. They made a big deal about how it’s a Hollywood trick to just suck it in to have that extra-extra concave tummies for the camera. And I’ve actually done it myself, when I’m kinda feeling bloated, and I’m not wearing those (very) uncomfortable control top underthings.
Just suck it in, hold your breath and hope your crush gets out of sight before you lose consciousness from oxygen deprivation! LOL
So anyway, these are my dumb thoughts for this week, thanks for reading 🙂

Top Sites Tuesday – Two Thoughts on Tuesday
Hmmm… It’s Top Sites Tuesday time again! So, what’s on my mind this tuesday… hmmm… amazing how the mind empties pretty fast when you’re forcing it to be creative!
Thought #1: What is your favorite sleeping position?
I found this little illustration on the SkyTrax website and found it so funny that there’s an actual study that analyzed people’s sleeping positions vis-à-vis their personalities!
I’m a Foetus sleeper, and this is how my personality is described (read all the descriptions HERE):
Those who curl up in the foetus position are described as tough on the outside but sensitive at heart. They may be shy when they first meet somebody, but soon relax. This is the most common sleeping position, adopted by 41% of the 1,000 people who took part in the survey. More than twice as many women as men tend to adopt this position.
I don’t know, the way all the personalities are described is so generalized, it would be partially right for most everyone right? It reads to me like a horoscope, where everyone has little bulls-eyes that are going to be hit no matter what. Anyway, I was just curious how the rest of you Top Sites Tuesday participants stack up 🙂
Thought #2: Apparently, all I have to do to lose those stubborn extra pounds I packed on is to move to a higher altitude! AND the holy grail – no exercise needed!
Found this article ‘Altitude Causes Weight Loss Without Exercise‘ on the net, and to summarize it, a study in the Obesity Magazine was published which showed that overweight and sedentary participants lost significant weight (and kept 2/3 of the weight off) after spending a week at 8,700 feet elevation.
The appetite-suppressing effect supposedly occurs since the participants’ bodies’ levels of the hormone Leptin (aka satiety hormone) increased while in higher altitude. The inner lazy in me (who still wants to lose weight) is just wondering…. Now, I can’t quite afford to take one week vacations at 8,700 elevations – but maybe I can manage to just buy over-the-counter Leptin if it exists? 😉

Top Sites Tuesday – Two Thoughts on Tuesday
Hmmm… It’s Top Sites Tuesday time again! So, what’s on my mind this tuesday… hmmm… amazing how the mind empties pretty fast when you’re forcing it to be creative!
Thought #1: Where do books go to die? Now that’s a whimsical thought! Books that I’ve read and loved live on forever in me – I’ve even been known to re-read them every once in a while. But what about the books that I couldn’t bring myself to finish? I was just going through my library, and I realized that I basically have a graveyard of sorts. These are books that I bought for one reason or another – the author was familiar to me, the blurb on the back of the book sounded interesting, the cover looked good, it was recommended to me – but after reading a couple of chapters, it becomes clear to me that the book is so bad that it’s better to cut my losses and not waste any more time.
For example, Piers Anthony’s ‘Jumper Cable‘ ended up in my library simply because I remember reading his Xanth series once upon a time and actually enjoying them. Well, a couple of chapters in and I knew that the whole book was a load of trash and seemed to be written by a sexually-frustrated 14-year-old-boy for other sexually-frustrated 14-year-olds (with apologies to 14-year-olds everywhere). What do you do with a book like that? I can’t read it, I can’t give it away (my friends might question our friendship moving forward), I can’t sell it (I have too much respect for other book lovers)… so it just lies around gathering dust. And I’ve got a couple of these paper-weights lying around… Maybe it’s time for me to get rid of the book graveyard and have a big old bonfire???
Thought #2: In a world of digital music, what does everyone do with the piles of CDs we have collected all our lives?
And I’m not talking about that Beatles or Queen collectors edition that you would only part with on threat of death – but just that odd CD or two that you bought because they were the trend or you just liked maybe two songs off the whole album or it was given as a gift so there’s some sentimental value to it – some may even be beloved albums when you were like thirteen, but haven’t listened to a note since high school. And somehow, these just multiplied and before you know it… it’s a big old graveyard of CDs that are basically space-occupying lesions. And no one else will want them too. It’s easy enough to just put everything in storage… and just forget about them. So, yeah, basically, I just pray that my parents won’t be needing the space in the near future… Or maybe I should just throw them all away in the trash???

Top Sites Tuesday – Two Thoughts on Tuesday
Hmmm… Top Sites Tuesday got rid of the different memes each week, and instead we have this generic (if positive) meme. Gotta say that I usually have LOTS of thoughts about everything, but the well dries up pretty quickly when I’m forced to actually ‘think’ – LOL
Thought #1: So who amongst us has contributed to Avatar grossing that billion $$$ and counting? I gotta say that while the 3D effects blew my mind (in a good way), the story itself left me going – that was the best that James Cameron could do??? A story that has been told a million times before?
And I found this on Boing Boing that made me laugh my ass off… Avatar = Pocahontas in Space indeed! (Just click on the thumbnail to expand)
* And speaking of the Avatar movie script, you can actually download a FREE PDF of the original script by James Cameron (if you are so inclined) on the Fox Screenings web page *
Thought #2: People are amazingly talented. What would YOU do if you had to take time off due to an injury? Sandy Sanderson from New Zealand broke his wrist in a motorcycle accident, and spent the time in recuperation making model cars by recycling discarded aluminum cans! Artistic and Green at the same time!
Here’s a Hot Rod made from a Coke can – you can check out the other model cars on jalopnik.

Top Sites Tuesday – Holiday Party!
This weeks theme is all about you. What puts you in the Holiday Spirit? Let everyone know what you’re up to or just wish everyone Happy Holidays!
Just wanted to wish everyone on Blog Dump’s Top Sites Tuesday a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
I was just thinking that maybe for some other people, this Christmas won’t be very merry at all. Maybe the job or money situation isn’t so good. And since parents always want to give their best for their children (and grandchildren too!), maybe some are struggling to just provide something nice this holidays. To anybody in this situation, just remember that children will always value the time and love of a parent rather than expensive toys.
My siblings and I were just talking about it recently, and I remember my parents going on and on about all the toys that they’d bought for us, that would essentially be broken like 24 hours later! And you know the funny thing was? My siblings and I agreed that the best ‘toy’ we ever had was this humongous empty box that had held our giant freezer that we converted to a battle tank. It became this big family project and we all sat down and painted it battle-ready green and it gave us hours of essentially ‘free’ entertainment… My dad and mom took time out to play the enemy patrol… and we all have great memories of it! And we couldn’t remember half of the so called ‘expensive’ toys. Silly children I guess 😉
And a Public Service Announcement please…
Welcome! The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,867 groups with 6,857,000 members across the globe. It’s a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It’s all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them’s good people). Membership is free. To sign up, find your community by entering it into the search box above or by clicking on “Browse Groups” above the search box. Have fun!
Be that as it may, I just wanted to highlight this amazing grass-roots effort for recycling on the internet. I learned about Freecycle.Org from my friends who have been ‘recycling’ their unwanted stuff and giving it away to people who would treasure it. Sort of like, ‘my trash is your treasure’ I guess. It’s not about just charity really. It’s about being ‘green’ for the environment, hence the emphasis on recycling. It’s about cherishing that loved object enough to give it away to someone who needs it instead of into the trash. Me and my friends have given away books and toys and pretty much anything that still has value that’s just taking up space. I think this is a great way of sharing some ‘holiday spirit’ this Christmas!

Top Sites Tuesday Meme – Your Favorite Holiday Music!
Cool meme this Tuesday – so I’m joining! 🙂
I can’t say it’s my ‘favorite’ holiday music, but listening to the Jackson 5’s ‘Give Love on Christmas Day’ sure brings back one fond memory for me.
I was in the second grade and our new ‘progressive’ English teacher had a ‘radical’ idea for a Christmas play. Instead of doing the traditional baby Jesus in a manger story, our teacher wrote up a completely ‘modern’ treatment about class inequality (and other social issues that escape me now) that somehow by-passed the censors (i.e. the nuns – yup, I was in a Catholic girls’ school). The details are foggy to me now, but I do remember my part – I played the bad guy – a meanie of a social-worker who was going to take away the kids from their poor parents on Christmas Day. It was my first (and last) big role on stage, and my mother had dressed me in a totally inappropriate pink dress with a ruffled skirt. My mom remembers the play as ‘fantastic’, my older sister says it was a ‘hot mess’ with no one remembering all their lines. Whatever.
Anyway, the way I remember it, we were totally amazing and the audience loved us, and we ended the play with a rousing rendition of yes, the Jackson 5’s ‘Give Love on Christmas Day’ (the whole point of this post). Listening to it now brings me back to that excited little girl back in second grade.
So, how about you? What’s your favorite? Or the song that brings back memories?
P.S. The whole album ‘JACKSON 5 – CHRISTMAS COLLECTION‘ is kinda like a little treasure now. Listening to Michael singing ‘Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town’, ‘Up On The House Top’ or ‘I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus’ (seriously, as far as I’m concerned, no one else can top that) … there’s a little bit of heaven there. There’s also pain in my heart for the little boy that was. RIP Michael…

Top Sites Tuesday Meme – Thought(s) of the Day On Tuesday
Cool meme this Tuesday – so I’m joining! 🙂
I’ve got the saying ‘May you live in interesting times!’ running in my head. It’s supposed to be this old Chinese saying or curse (spoken in the mode of ‘Confucious says‘), but Chinese people I know say it ain’t from them really … and google tells me that it’s actually from “U-Turn” a sci-fi short story by Duncan Munro. Well, you learn something everyday.
Anyway, I was just watching the History Channel, and they had this program up all about 2012. Maybe it was prompted by the movie 2012, but they were citing all sorts of stuff from Nostradamus, to the Mayans, to the Egyptians, to the Freemasons, etc. Supposedly, Dec 21, 2012 is the tipping point for planet-wide upheavals as related to a cosmic phenomenon called the ‘Galactic Alignment‘ (where our sun will align with the center of the Milky Way galaxy). Sounds like a script straight from the SyFy channel, no wonder Hollywood made a movie… at any rate, they say interesting times are up ahead. The world as we know it will never be the same again.
But interesting times are here now. I’ve got a friend from the Philippines who experienced being stranded on the roof for hours waiting for rescue while flood waters rose alarmingly. I’ve seen the video of that hotel in Taiwan just tilt and collapse in the height of a storm. I could go on and on. And it’s not just natural disasters, we’ve got war, swine flu, global warming, etc etc (just take your pick). And through it all, life goes on. Even in the most inhospital regions of Antarctica and beneath volcanic lava lakes (I learned that from the Discovery Channel).
And so the lesson I take from this? Thank goodness for cable… or we wouldn’t know anything… lol … Sorry, I was trying to think of something profound to say, but nothing came out. Life. Just. Is. ya know?
P.S. Before leaving my page, take a break and listen to ‘Trouble Is A Friend‘ by Lenka. It’s a really cool song, and relevant to my Thought of the Day. Really. It is.

Top Sites Tuesday Meme – Finish this Sentence – When I get home, I like to…
This week the theme is: Finish this Sentence – “When I get home, I like to…”
It’s something new! Just finish the sentence! It’s going to be neat how many different ways one sentence can be finished!
Cool meme for this week … Okay, here goes … When i get home, I like to lie back, relax, listen to music and allow myself to sink into – well – anything. I place my iPod on shuffle mode and when I hit a tune that resonates with me in particular, I may end up listening to that one song again and again and again…
And last night, this particular song happened to be … “Race You” by Elizabeth & The Catapult from the album Taller Children. I love how this song mixes childish playfulness & whimsy with adult-ish introspection.
I end up feeling nostalgic. I remember in particular one summer day where the power conked out and it was sweltering hot, and all the batteries had to be saved and the games ran out of charge, but somehow it didn’t matter. We just improvised. It just became a long summer day full of other silly kinds of games and wonderful water gun fights when the heat got too much … and when finally, finally, blessed cool dusk fell and still the power was out … everyone just gathered outside under the stars and we, the children, played shadow puppets with flashlights. Good times.
