Joining the “Bloggiesta! Ready, Set . . . Let’s Fiesta!” Challenge
Just spontaneously decided to join the Bloggiesta! Ready, Set . . . Let’s Fiesta! challenge! It’s a 3-day challenge where you get to connect to other bloggers while sprucing your blog up! They’ve got a list of suggested things to do for the challenge (What to do during the Bloggiesta?) and a bunch of Mini-challenges that seem useful (and fun) too.
So, are you in too? Bloggiesta! Ready, Set . . . Let’s Fiesta! I’ll be updating this post as I go along instead of putting new posts up, so bear with me 🙂
Bloggiesta Mini-Challenge: Getting your blog listed in several blog directories (via Chronicle of an Infant Bibliophile)
As the Bloggiesta challenge winds down, I think I’m going to continue going through the different mini-challenges and suggestions they have. It’s been really an eye-opener for me!
Anyway, here’s another old minichallenge that’s definitely helpful - getting your blog onto some blog directories! I love how convenient directories are, since all the links are set out nice and neat. Thought this would be a good opportunity to pimp out the WordPress Book bloggers directory too! Anyway, Chronicle of an Infant Bibliophile has a pretty good compilation of different blog directories - now off to submit my blog! 🙂

Bloggiesta Mini-Challenge: Grade Your Blog (via Bookish Ruth)
This is an old mini-challenge for Bloggiesta participants, but since it’s my first time, it’s new to me! Anyway, the point of this excercise is to find out how healthy your blog is when run through the Website Grader. It’s a relatively painless process since all you need to do is input your web address, and then you’ll get back an analysis of your site. There’s even a sister Twitter Grader to find out how well you’re using Twitter.
Anyway, this is my Website Grader analysis report. I’ve got a Website Grade of 94 (pretty happy about that!), a Blog Grade of 20 and a MOZ Rank of 4. On the negative side, I’m told that I have no metadata info (how do I get one for WP.Com?) and that I have way too many images in my blog (It’s my experience that my blog still loads fine even with the images - but do you find a slow loading time for RandomizeME because of all the images? Please let me know!). Hmmm… learned quite a few things from this analysis that I should work on.
Bloggiesta Mini-Challenge: 10 Things Bloggers Should Not Do (via WordLily)
Okay, the challenge was to find out if I was guilty of any of the ‘blogging sins’ (via DailyBlogTips: 10 Things Bloggers Should NOT Do). After reading through the list, I guess I’m pretty happy about my blog & rate myself pretty well, well except that I kind of flunked some rules: I don’t really spend much time promoting myself (how on earth do I promote my blog anyway?), worrying about SEO (I thought WordPress takes care of that with the tags and all that?) and I don’t really network that much (I guess you could say that I usually just wait for readers to find me via search engine). And as for this: ‘You Must Not Have An Unreadable/Unnavigable Site‘ - I’m going to need feedback on that one. I mean, I like how my site looks, but how about you guys? I wish someone would let me know!
Bloggiesta Mini-Challenge: Setting Goals (via My Friend Amy Blog)
I started this blog basically as a hodge-podge place where I could post whatever I want. I know that the usual advice is to stick to a blog-niche and that’s how you’re supposed to get regular readers or followers, but when I started, i thought that it would be boring (for me) to just stick to one topic. I’m interested in many things, and I resented the thought that I’d have to self-censor myself just to fit my blog into a box.
Today, my blog still doesn’t fit into any niche box, but I do post regularly on certain topics that I’m intersted in, and hopefully, my blog readers are interested in. I’m happy that my bargain-hunting, freebie-hunting, Adam Lambert-fan, book & music-loving self can continue to share and express myself here 🙂 All in all, I’m pretty happy with what I’m doing, and I guess I just intend to continue doing it! Is the goal of just continuing what I’m doing a good goal, I don’t know!
