Book Description

When a secretive American cult moves to the Gold Coast, freelance journalist Scout Davis’s investigative antennae start quivering. She sets out to expose the cult’s lunatic beliefs and bizarre practices, but when she learns the identity of a recent recruit, her quest becomes personal. And dangerous.

The cult isn’t the only case on Scout’s agenda. Someone is cutting up girls’ underwear at an exclusive school and Scout agrees to look into it. And the sinister secret behind the vandalism is not nice. Not at all.

But Scout has her secrets too. In the dead of night she sneaks out with an underground group of yarn bombers to decorate the locality with artworks. The next mission ticks all the right boxes – it’s risky, difficult and extremely silly. However, not everyone is amused, and Scout has a sneaking suspicion that the local police sergeant, Rafe Kelly, is hot on her tail.

Mad Men, Bad Girls and the Guerilla Knitters Institute is frequently hilarious, always surprising, and delivered with a strong cast of charmingly eccentric characters.

‘5 Questions’ Interview With Suzanne Tyrpak! @SuzanneTyrpak

January 10, 2013 1 comment

5 Questions

Today I’m thrilled to welcome author Suzanne Tyrpak to the blog as part of the ‘5 Questions’ with authors interview series!

If you are an author who would like to participate in the series, fill out the questionnaire here! And if you are a reader who wants to suggest an author for the series, just send me an email!

Rosy: A Novel by Suzanne Tyrpak

Describe your book Rosy: A Novel in ten words or less

Rosy (Dreams can become Nightmares) – Dark coming-of-age in 1970s Manhattan.

Where or how did you come up with the idea for your story?

I used to be an actress and a Go-Go dancer, so the story began to germinate years ago. The 1970s were filled with music, sex, drugs, and general insanity–a great setting for a story.

I wrote the first draft of the book about fifteen years ago. It’s grown along with me and contains many levels.

Which of your characters (in this book) is closest to your heart and why?

I’m very close to the protagonist, Sarah, aka Rosy. She’s funny, kind, and makes terrible choices–her rose-colored glasses get progressively darker as the story unfolds.

I also have a soft spot for John, the homeless veteran who spends most of his consciousness in angelic realms. I enjoyed his quirky views.

Do you have a day job? If yes, tell us about it and how did that affect your writing / publishing process?

I work for Frontier Airlines. This allows me to travel, and gives me a great platform for studying characters!

Tell us about an upcoming book or project you’re excited about

Rosy was out in time for Thanksgiving. The book has been a long time coming, and I’m very excited about it. Each chapter is named for a song, and the songs are linked to MP3 downloads which will be fun and interactive.

Here’s a description:

Small town girl, Sarah, dreams of finding love and fame in New York City, but following her dreams leads to a downward slide into the insanity of the late 1970s: nightclubs, sex, drugs, and violence ὰ la Magic Mike.

Desperate to dig herself out of debt, Sarah becomes pole dancer, Rosy Dreams. But the more money she makes, the darker her nightmare becomes as she sinks into a world where no one can be trusted—especially the men who claim to adore her.

As Sarah slips deeper into the underworld, she questions not only her dreams, but her sanity. She battles demons—imagined and real—fighting to survive the city’s brutality, fighting for her dreams, and ultimately fighting for her life.

Bonus Question! Fill in the blank: If you like ___, you’ll probably like my book too!

If you like the movie Magic Mike, you’ll probably enjoy Rosy.

Hmmmm…other writers. Wally Lamb comes to mind. Rosy has been compared to She’s Come Undone.

Thanks again for stopping by, Suzanne Tyrpak! You can learn more about the author via her Blog: Who’s Imagining All This?, Facebook: Suzanne-Tyrpak, and Twitter: @SuzanneTyrpak.

Rosy: A Novel is available on Amazon (Kindle). Note that this is classified under New Adult and features adult themes: sex, drugs, language.

Check out Suzanne Tyrpak’s Amazon author page for more info and browse through her other books!
