My Favorite Things
I liked Tracey Garvis Graves’ post on HER favorite things on her blog so much that I wanted to share my own favorite things 😉
“Like Oprah’s list, only way more awesome and a heck of a lot cheaper.” – Tracey Garvis Graves
I don’t know how awesome my own list is, but it IS heck of a lot cheaper than Oprah’s!

Ipod Shuffle The latest edition of the iPod Shuffle has been updated so it can do a ton more things than what my own first generation Shuffle can ever dream of doing, but I can’t quite make myself give it up to buy a new one. It still works perfectly for one thing, and I’ve had it with me through all my weight gains (and losses). Clipped to my shirt, it practically disappears as I continue on with my (endless) battle with the bulge! |

Beats by Dr. Dre In-Ear Headphone The latest edition of the Beats by Dr. Dre In-Ear Headphone has been updated with Control Talk, but I’m still plenty happy with mine. What on earth is “Control Talk” anyway? The first thing I loved about it was that the flat cable really remains tangle-free (as promised) or virtually tangle-free even as I dump it carelessly in my backpack. It’s very durable too – I abuse my headphones a lot and have to change them frequently when the cord gets loose (from all the pulling), but this one is still working great after a year. |

Clinique Acne Solutions Spot Healing Gel I swear by this – it’s like a magical pimple-away! wand for those isolated hormonal outbreaks! The (secret) ingredient is Salicylic Acid, and you just apply it as a colorless thin layer on that angry looking pustular mostrosity until it dries out. I’ve had this since I was a teenager and I’ll be using them for as long as the breakouts continue. |

crocs Beach Clog Yes, I agree – they do look hideous. And the colors clash with everything. But. But. They’re so light and comfy (like wearing bedroom slippers)! And your feet get ventilated! And they’re virtually abuse-proof too. Mine will probably last until I’m 80 (or thereabouts). |

Bejeweled It’s now called Bejeweled 2 + Blitz, but it’s the same addictive game I’ve loved from my Palm Pilot days (together with Sim City) and is one of the apps I always end up playing on my iPod Touch. I’m not exactly sure what’s so satisfying about smashing a bunch of colorful gems as fast as you can, but there you go.One of the best all time time-wasters out there! |

Ziploc Zip’N Steam Cooking Bags To whoever invented the Ziploc Zip’N Steam Cooking Bags, me and my microwave give you thanks from the bottom of our hearts. I’m a total dumbass when it comes to cooking, but this is literally cooking (or rather, steaming) for dummies. Just follow the written instructions and you’ve got a healthy meal in a few minutes. Without breaking a sweat. |

AMC’s The Walking Dead The Walking Dead, Season 2 hasn’t been as fast-paced as The Walking Dead Season 1 (I’ve been wondering for some episodes now just when the eff they were going to leave that magical zombie-proof farm) but OMG that mid season finale!? That last 15-minutes was heart-wrenching… A VERY close second for me is HBO’s Game of Thrones– they did GRR Martin right! Now I’m wondering what else to watch while waiting for my fave series to come back.I’m thinking Homeland (maybe? I just really dislike Clare Danes though). |

Dream a Dream by Charlotte Church Charlotte Church’s Christmas CD Dream a Dream is still one of my all-time faves. The title track (with Billy Gilman) cheers me up no matter my mood. |

Preparation H Yes, it can be a bit embarassing if someone finds you carrying Preparation H (otherwise known as Preparation H Hemorrhoidal Ointment) in your bag, but seriously, a dab under your eyes is a great fix-me-up for those unsightly eyebags! Works like a charm 🙂 |

Kindle I personally have a Kindle, but honestly, it can be any eReader and I suspect it’d still be my favorite thing. Why? Because it’s having an entire library in your pocket. Do you know that scene in Matilda when the kid discovers that she could borrow books from the library and practically vibrates with happiness? Well, if my 7-year-old self would be transported to today, that would be my reaction to the eReaders. |

And that’s my list! Do you have your own list too?

What an awesome list! I’m so glad you were inspired to write your own “favorite things” post. I love my pink 1st generation shuffle and will choose it over my pink Nano for working out because I also like clipping it to my shirt. I use Clinique’s whole skin care line and think it’s wonderful. I’m *definitely* checking out the Ziploc bags – how have I never noticed these???
I have also spent the last 20 minutes reading your book reviews. You’re really good at them. I read Tom Perrotta’s Little Children and was thinking about reading The Leftovers but was on the fence. I think I’ll give it a try.
What a great blog!
Tracey
Thanks for reading my reviews! I do tend to wonder if anybody does read them, but I like writing them, so I guess I’ll continue to review whether anyone reads or not 🙂
